This feast was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925, in order to remind the faithful in these days of indifference and irreligion that Christ is the King of all men, endowed with all kingly power to rule and to judge.Â
Individuals, families and nations are bound by the moral and religious law of Christ. It is only by acknowledging loyally His supreme authority in public and private life that society will attain liberty, peace and order and that individuals will attain eternal life.Â
The Kingdom of Christ is not territorial or terrestrial, but one of Truth, Holiness and Justice (Roman Missal).
He shall rule from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth. And all kings of the earth shall adore Him: all nations shall do Him service (Gradual Psalm 71).
