We recently featured our trusty Torch of The Faith staff car Red Bessie. Sadly, after 14 years of faithful service in the family, she reached the end of the road a few days back and had to be scrapped.

These badges are all that remain to remind us of the good times we had together!

Instead of flowers we are asking people to send financial donations to the Sisters of the Gospel of Life in Scotland to help them to raise funds for a much needed car to help them in their pro-life work.

We are blessed that we already have another car - our faithful VW 'Silver Bessie'.

'She',(and we!), got off lightly yesterday when a pheasant hurled itself under our wheels at 60mph! Although the impact was horrible for us, (and sadly was terminal for the big bird), we escaped with losing just this front decorative grille and a few paint chips. It could have been a lot worse... Deo Gratias!

Providentially we were on our way to Warrington VW to pick up some new engine coolant and when we got there we simply ordered a replacement part. The cost? A snip at £14!

By the way, if you are ever putting new coolant in your engine... make sure that you use the exact product. Since the late 1990's, coolant comes in various colours and coded types - for example pink or green fluids. Do not be tempted to mix and match them as they can react with costly consequences. If in doubt always check with your qualified brand dealer!

A little shaken from our crunch, (and saddened for the game bird), we motored north to St. Catherine Laboure in Preston for our second, and concluding, evening giving catechesis to the parents of this year's children who are preparing for their First Confession and First Holy Communion.

Over the years, the fine parish priest, Fr. Simon Henry, has been a great inspiration to us in our faith and it was a pleasure to be able to help him and the parish in these endeavours.

As well as being a loyal and devoted defender of the Sacred Tradition of the Catholic Faith, Fr. Simon also makes some of the tastiest homemade soup in all of Lancashire!

Please pray for him, for Chris the school headteacher and his staff, and the parents and children as they grow together in the love of Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church.

On the way home from Preston we stopped off in St. Helens, another town with a rich, Catholic heritage, in order to have a cuppa and a pleasant evening with our good friends the Owens!
