It is good to learn from the latest Precious Life newsletter that Bernadette Smyth and her supporters are promoting the 40 Days for Life campaign as part of their Lenten observance.
The 40 Days for Life campaign runs from 25th February (Ash Wednesday)Â - 5th April (Palm Sunday).
Bernadette points out that last year's campaign played a key part in the fight to keep abortion out of Ireland and to limit the implications of the HFE Bill.
This Lent she and her supporters have organised another campaign which unites them to over 130 groups taking part across America, Canada and Australia.
In Chapter 9 of Mark's Gospel, Jesus stated that some demons can only be driven out by prayer and fasting. During Lent 2009, Bernadette urges us to pray and fast for -
1.) The protection of all of Ireland from attempts to legalise abortion there.  Â
2.) The repeal of the 1967 Abortion Act in Britain.
3.) All unborn children in danger of abortion.
4.) Women and men carrying the pain of past abortion experience.
5.) The conversion of all those involved in the killing of preborn babies.
6.) A pro-life revival and renewal in our churches.
7.) Repentance and healing throughout our lands.
The 40 Days campaign itself has a website :-

If possible please consider holding, (or joining), a peaceful, prayer vigil outside an abortion facility in your town/city. The Rosary prayed at such locations is a powerful witness to those involved and has saved babies and their families on countless occasions.Â
Above all let us make this Lent a time of reparation to the Lord for our own sins and the sins of our brothers and sisters in contemporary Britain. Â
