At the Name of Jesus, every knee shall bow: Cardinal Vincent Nichols leads 6,000 pilgrims in Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at Liverpool's Echo Arena.

Whilst we have expressed some of the caveats and reservations we have regarding the Adoremus Eucharistic Congress, which is taking place this weekend in our home city of Liverpool, it remains a great grace that some 6,000 pilgrims knelt before the Real Presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ, during Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction, this evening at the Liverpool Echo Arena.

This happened during a day on which Liverpool's Archbishop Malcolm McMahon paid tribute to the local English Martyr Saints John Rigby, Edmund Arrowsmith and John Almond; and asked for their intercession for the success of the Congress.

Another important moment was the Archbishop's welcoming, during this great Feast of Her Nativity, of the beautiful statue of Our Lady of Walsingham; which had been brought specially to Liverpool from Walsingham's medieval Slipper Chapel, by Msgr. John Armitage.

During the liturgy, Cardinal Vincent Nichols prayed as follows:

Lord, recreate Your Church, a visible Body of Your Son, so that we may bring joy not grief, trust not betrayal, love not anger, in the hearts of all people, especially Your poor and the little ones.

In light of the ongoing sex-abuse scandals and dreadful cover-ups and denials, even from the very top of the Church, as well as the Hierarchy of England and Wales' own handling of the recent case of little Alfie Evans, we must hope and pray that this call for the Lord to recreate will not be mere lip-service, but will flow into a genuine changing of heart for all of the Church to become much more faithful to Christ than before.

A very practical demonstration of this, for example, could be for the Bishops of England and Wales to apologise for this particular failing, reach out to those who have been so badly hurt and let down, and then get firmly behind the new attempts to bring in changes to the law to protect future families from having to go through the kinds of trials that the families of little Alfie Evans and Charlie Gard had to endure.

Last night and tonight there was an intense spiritual peace on Merseyside, of the sort one encounters on Holy Thursday or Christmas Eve.

Tonight it was far stronger than it was last night. I am convinced that this is all due to the fact that the Real Presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, has been exposed and adored by literally thousands of people in the Liverpool Echo Arena, the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, the Blessed Sacrament Shrine and various other churches in the city and outlying region this weekend.

In spite of all the bad things happening in the Church and society, in spite of the darkness, the sin and the errors, in spite of all our own sins and lack of fidelity to prayer and penance, Our Lord has not abandoned His Church.

He is with us.

Deo Gratias!

Please join us in praying for tomorrow's Eucharistic Procession from the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King at 1pm to be a time for giving great and uncompromised honour to Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.

May it also be a period of great graces for the healing and conversion of souls in our home city of Liverpool and far beyond.

We pray that the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, passing in reverent procession through the streets of Liverpool, will bring fruits of social peace, conversion of hearts, orthodox reform in the Church, healing of wounds, help to the homeless, protection for the unborn, elderly and vulnerable, and a renewal of faith, strength and hope.

May Catholics receive the grace to love Christ more; and may souls who have never yet encountered Jesus receive the graces they need to find, know, love and serve Him in this life; in order to be happy with Him forever in the next.

Don't forget: Traditional Latin Mass (Missa Cantata) at St. Anthony's on Scotland Road, Liverpool, L5 5BD at 3pm, followed by traditional Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

Our Lady of Walsingham - pray for us!

Ss John Rigby, Edmund Arrowsmith and John Almond - pray for us!
