News Item: : Adoremus Eucharistic Congress - May it Be a Time of Grace Leading Souls to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament

With Archbishop Malcolm McMahon's official welcome having been given at the Liverpool Echo Arena, the Adoremus Eucharistic Congress is now underway in the Archdiocese of Liverpool.

Although there are a number of key events on the schedule which one would look askance at - such as the participation of Westminster's Cardinal Nichols in a Liverpool still reeling from his handling of the case of little Alfie Evans; the screening of episodes with live commentary and discussion led by Jimmy McGovern on his TV-series Broken, inside of St. Francis Xavier's church; the incorporation of a Beatles 'sing-a-long' evening at St. Anne's and St. Bernard's church in Overbury Street; and the obvious dangers of religious indifferentism which, depending on how this is done, could be inherent when local Protestant leaders have been invited to take part in the Eucharistic Procession through the city on Sunday afternoon - this is nevertheless an opportunity with tremendous potential for the giving of glory to God, the restoration of faith for many people and of bringing new souls to Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

There are splendid opportunities across the city for Eucharistic Adoration (visitors to the city are strongly encouraged not to miss the oasis of peace that is the Blessed Sacrament Shrine at 4 Dawson Street in the city), Confession, the Traditional Latin Mass, silent prayer, vocational discernment and chances to meet up with other Catholics who are keen to keep and spread the Faith in our times.

A particularly good highlight of the congress looks to be the archive exhibition of items from the 1908 Eucharistic Congress, taking place at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King.

Another not-to-be-missed aspect has to be the presentation of the International Exhibition of Eucharistic Miracles, which was designed by the Servant of God, Carlo Acutis.

This Exhibition of Eucharistic Miracles may be viewed at both the Gibberd Room at the cathedral, and also at the beautiful St. John's Church at 70 Fountains Road, Kirkdale, Liverpool, L4 1QL.

In time for the event, Bishop Mark Davies of Shrewsbury has written a heartening article, which points us all back to the Real Presence of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in the Most Holy Eucharist.

To be fair to them, the Catholic Herald has made this a prominent feature article for this weekend, under the title: Amid the darkness in the Church and the world, there is one constant source of light.

Regular readers know that we often speak out here, and with good reason, over the internal deconstruction of the Church and of family life, both locally and internationally.

Nevertheless, we hope and pray that this weekend in our home Archdiocese and city will be a time of giving glory to God and of opening hearts up to great graces and blessings for the local Church and the people who do not even yet know Our Lord, or of His Real Presence in the Blessed Sacrament.

Archbishop Malcolm McMahon has started the Congress off by expressing his hope that the event will be a time for people to feel at home, not just in the city of Liverpool, but also ''at home in Jesus, in the Blessed Sacrament.''

Also, the Adoremus Congress has issued an important prayer request, which reads: ''Please pray for those in Liverpool who will see our Eucharistic Procession on Sunday, that it may stir within them a curiosity and that that curiosity may lead them to seeking Jesus Christ.''

That would certainly be our prayer for the Adoremus Eucharistic Congress now taking place in our home city of Liverpool.

May it be a conduit of grace to bring honour to God and salvation and sanctification to many souls who, by His grace and the prayers of the faithful, might find Him in the Blessed Sacrament.

Above all, may Our Lord Jesus Christ, Really Present in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the Tabernacles of our Catholic Churches be loved, honoured, worshipped and adored by all hearts.
