London's Westminster Bridge in happier times.

UPDATE: Way down the lists of key points in their headlines, the British mainstream media has now acknowledged the words of Defence Secretary Michael Fallon which confirm that, ''the working assumption is that the Westminster attack is linked to Islamic terrorism''. Anyone who saw the earliest media photographs of the dead attacker, before they began to obscure his face and beard in the released images, could have confirmed as much yesterday evening. Who is really helped by this reticence to acknowledge central facts?

As news of this dreadful attack in Westminster hits home, it seems appropriate for us to pray Cardinal Wiseman's famous prayer for England. Please join in with us from wherever you are.

Prayer for England

O Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, and our most gentle Queen and Mother, look down in mercy upon England, Thy Dowry, and upon us all who greatly hope and trust in Thee.

By Thee it was that Jesus, our Saviour and our hope was given unto the world; and He has given Thee to us that we might hope still more.

Plead for us Thy children whom Thou didst receive and accept at the foot of the Cross, O sorrowful Mother.

Intercede for our separated brethren that in the one true fold we may all be united under the chief shepherd of Christ's flock, and that by faith fruitful in good works we may all deserve to see and praise God together with Thee in our Heavenly home.

Amen.

(Cardinal Nicholas Wiseman of Westminster 1802 - 1865).

May God have mercy on those who were murdered; and may He help those who are now suffering grave injuries, bereavement and trauma.

Thanks for reading each day - stay safe people.

Above all, keep close to God in the state of grace.

Our Lady of Walsingham - Pray for us!
