A bit of England that is forever Lourdes!: Our home shrine to Our Lady of Lourdes yesterday afternoon. Years ago, my late Dad attached that small note with a piece of rock to the foot of Our Lady's statue. It reads: Rock from the side of the cave of apparitions at Lourdes. Erm, don't ask me how Dad came by that!!! But do know that it is not from the inside of the grotto; and that, nevertheless, it has a special place of honour where it is.

Unearthly Joy in the Domestic Church!

We brought some of the Christmas lights back out yesterday to adorn our statue of Our Lady of Lourdes for Her annual feast day.

In fact, Mum, Angie and I held a candlelight procession around the house; joyfully singing the Lourdes Hymn and Laudate Mariam as we went along!

At the end of the procession, we prayed the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary in front of the statue; prior to settling down with a plate of chocolate tiffin squares to watch the classical black-and-white movie, The Song of Bernadette!

Now to God be all glory and worship for aye,

and to God's Virgin Mother an endless Ave!

Some things that have always stood out from Lourdes for us are the facts that Our Lady asked for: people to be cleansed from Original Sin by the waters of Baptism; people to live lives of conversion, holiness and humility; Penance, Penance, Penance!; the Rosary to be prayed devoutly; and that Our Lady told St. Bernadette that She did not promise happiness in this life, but in the next.

These heavenly lessons have a timeless quality for everyone.
