News Item: : Error Refutes Itself - Fr. Spadaro Demonstrates the Maxim

Fr. Antonio Spadaro, a modernistic Jesuit described by observers throughout the world as the ''mouthpiece'' of Pope Francis, has provided a remarkable demonstration of St. Irenaeus' timeless maxim, ''Error Refutes Itself''.

Among his prolific Twitter outputs this week, Spadaro irrationally suggested that, ''Theology is no #Mathematics. 2 + 2 in #Theology can make 5. Because it has to do with #God and real #life of #people...''

As Phil Lawler points out, over at CatholicCulture.Org: ''Fr. Spadaro has an interest in promoting this sort of irrationalism. If you can suspend the ordinary rule of logic by making vague references to ''real life'' and ''people,'' then you can sew up the debate on Amoris Laetitia very neatly.''

Of course, there should be no ''debate'' on Amoris Laetitia, because the document should make clear the timeless objective truth that those living in an objective state of mortal sin are not to receive Holy Communion.

In any case, who wants to waste any time ''debating'' with someone like Spadaro, who cheerily tweets that he and his belief system are irrational and relativistic?

To avoid wandering down such blind alleys with the confused and confusing Antonio, let us instead read, digest and draw fresh life from the clear and logical teaching enunciated with such clarity in the First Vatican Council's description of the relationship between Faith and science.

In Dei Filius 4, we read: ''Though faith is above reason, there can never be any real discrepancy between faith and reason. Since the same God who reveals mysteries and infuses faith has bestowed the light of reason on the human mind, God cannot deny Himself, nor can truth ever contradict truth''.

Now, being reasonable and in accord with logic, that makes perfect sense doesn't it?

Gosh, if Fr. Antonio Spadaro thinks 2+2 can equal 5 - at least in his own little world of ''theology'' - then perhaps his Jesuit superiors best not let him count the money from the Sunday collection plates.

Or even go out alone.

At least, not with the parish cheque book!

Fides et Ratio Introduction: Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth; and God has placed in the human heart a desire to know the truth - in a word, to know Himself - so that, by knowing and loving God, men and women may come to the fullness of truth about themselves.
